OUR ROOTS

Branching-Out originated from our love of nature, wood, and Adirondack traditions. After twenty years of handcrafting Adirondack pieces for our family and friends, we are, Branching-Out from our home in northern New York, near the Canadian border, to share our creations with you.

The Leidner’s reside on the shores of Lake Champlain in the log home that Scott and his father built nearly twenty-five years ago. Utilizing the woodworking, construction, and carpentry skills learned from his dad, Scott has added a post and beam Adirondack Great Room to his home, and built a second log cabin retreat on seventy acres in the Adirondacks. Retired now after a rewarding twenty-two year career as a New York State Trooper, Scott devotes most of his time to studying the wonderful Adirondack Great Camp Era and creating original tables, lamps, chandeliers, and other rustics, based on this tradition. Scott has spent countless hours researching the architecture, furniture and designs of the era, and has had the opportunity to visit a number of Adirondack Great Camps, as well. Florence Leidner, Scott’s mother, who is a wildlife artist, often incorporates her original art work into some of our designs and is always willing to add her decorative touch to our creations. Some of her pieces of art are displayed in our web gallery and are always exhibited at our shows.

Branching-Out is a small home-based family business, specializing in individually crafted items which are warm and comfortable additions to most homes and lifestyles. Our designs are a beautiful complement to rustic, contemporary, or antique decors. They will likewise be a special addition to that Adirondack Room or Great Room that you may have always dreamed of including in your home.

Each piece is handcrafted from specially selected trees which were pruned or harvested as a result of ice storm damage. Most decorative accents used in our products are collected on frequent nature walks in our forest. Every effort is made to always incorporate woods that are unique, interesting and of fine quality.

During the summer and fall seasons, our Branching-Out family takes to the roads and visits many Arts festivals, fairs, and shows. Scott’s wife Linda, who is a first grade teacher, enjoys the opportunity to meet and greet old and new customers who visit our display. Our twelve year old son, Brett is a huge help with set-up and pack-up at the shows. He is a junior apprentice in the sign-making aspect of our business.

Although many of our items can be shipped, our tables are heavy and bulky, making shipping in most cases, cost prohibitive. We look forward to sharing our Adirondack wood products with you, as well as bringing a piece of the Great Camp Era into your home and hearts.
